Depending on where you live (u.s)…a gate is the LAW. and if your insurance company drops by to check things out (like they did to me), they can drop your coverage on the spot. Its your kids life, spend what you have to ..thats why we go into debt right? Last year in N.Y. a 3 yr old girl climbed the ladder and died.

if you can afford the automated roll up pool cover that would be better since it doesn’t overtake your backyard like a big fence would. make sure it fits tightly over the pool when rolled out because any looseness will create a potential choking hazard if someone was to fall into the pool while it was rolled out.
it is the law to have some sort of locking mechanism on a door or gate. my indoor pool has a locking door. to be safe, most kids are clever enough to figure out a locked gate, so it would be best to figure out a design with a pool cover also that takes a combo to open or something, it took me 2 weeks at age 4 to figure out how to unlock, and get into the pool room. ps a self locking gate is the best.
