Can anyone tell what is a safety shot in pool and how do you perform it?
my bro in law told me one way but can’t believe anything he says or does. just curious

In 8 ball, if a player declares a safety shot, he shoots legally and then relinquishes his turn at the table, even if he makes one of his balls.

In 9 ball, safety shots aren’t declared; you have to continue if you shoot legally and make a ball.

Safety shots are generally defensive shots, leaving your opponent in a bad, difficult, or sometimes impossible position to make a good shot in hopes that they foul so you can get ball in hand.

Safeties are more common in 9 Ball not to say there isn’t safety play in 8 ball but I have seen more safety play in 9 ball. Safety is usually when you block your opponent on a shot but there are other safety plays. Go on youtube and watch videos.
